Greek composer of avant garde, contemporary music.
Lefteris Papadimitriou was born in Volos, Greece. He has composed many works for electronic media and acoustic instruments, many of which have been performed by groups and musicians such as London Sinfonietta, Asko Εnsemble, Elision Εnsemble, ARTefacts Ensemble Sarah Nicolls, Klangforum Wien u.a. In 2006 he was awarded the international Gaudeamus prize for his composition “Black & White” for piano and orchestra. He holds a PhD in composition from the university of Huddersfield in Britain, with a scholarship from Huddersfield’s contemporary music festival.
His first audiovisual work ”L’Union libre” was presented at FILE new media festival in Sao Paolo, Brazil. The electroacoustic piece ”Dreamscape” was finalist at ”Phonologia” composition competition in Milan and the piece ”Tabula Smaragdina”, for soprano, piano and synthesizer was selected for the final concert of the 2018 Franco Evangelisti composition competition in Rome. In 2019 he created the algorithmic audiovisual work titled ”Chamber Cosmic Strings” in collaboration with visual artist Orfeas Pavlidis that was presented at various venues in Greece.
He is interested in programing, algorithmic music, audiovisual works and improvisation. Compositional interests include among others the psychological mapping of aural signals and gestures on conceptual and physical musical spaces, hybridization of electronic and acoustic sound, futurism, the employment of cognitive psychology and semiotics in music.
